Gonzalez Byass & International Sherry Week: Online Tastings and Tio Pepe Events

Gonzalez Byass celebrates International Sherry Week with the return of the popular online tastings with Master Blender Antonio Flores and Tio Pepe events being held around the world.

Gonzalez Byass joins the third edition of International Sherry Week, celebrated from 7th till 13th November, with a series of activities including online tastings which have proved to be a great success in past years and a Tio Pepe Events competition with Tio Pepe wines as the protagonist.

The online tastings with Master Blender Antonio Flores, IWC Fortified Winemaker of the Year 2016, will take place on 7th and 10th November from Villa Victorina in the históric Gonzalez Byass cellars in the heart of Jerez. The tasting on Monday 7th will be translated to German for our clients in Germany and Switzerland and the tasting on the 10th will be followed by clients in South American, USA and UK. Throughout the entire week dedicated to sherry wines Tio Pepe Events with be held around the world, including sherry and flamenco events in The Netherlands, food matching tastings in Israel and tastings in China to name a few. Images of all events will be uploaded to Tio Pepe social media and the best event will win a trip to visit the home of Tio Pepe in Jerez. Prizes will also be offered via social media for the best images with the Tio Pepe photocall.

Gonzalez Byass will also take part in a number of events held by the Regulatory Board including Raul Vega’s attempt to hold the largest sherry tasting ever in Mexico. All events should be registered to http://sherryweek.wine

Gonzalez Byass Sherrymaster attracts top international professionals to Jerez

For the fourth year running González Byass has held its prestigious Sherrymaster by Tio Pepe in Jerez. Bringing together a group of influential buyers from across the globe to join Master Blender, Antonio Flores and Fred Dame, renowned American Master Sommelier, and learn about Sherry in the heart of Jerez.

The Sherrymaster by Tio Pepe was launched in 2013 with the aim of bringing key influencers from around the world to the home of the world’s most famous Fino Sherry brand, Tío Pepe, to learn about this most fascinating fortified wine.

This wide ranging, educational course has been devised with sommeliers and buyers specifically in mind: the objective being to give them the opportunity to learn about Sherry at source, discovering the intricacies of the viticultural and vinification processes, the ins and outs of the Solera system and the secrets of such gems as the intriguing Palo Cortado, to mention just a few aspects that were included in the programme.

With guests from the USA, China, Canada, Germany, Belgium and the UK, this year’s edition of the Sherrymaster was chaired by Antonio Flores, Master Blender, accompanied by Fred Dame MS from the USA.

Commenting on the 2016 Sherry Master, Antonio Flores said, “The level of knowledge of each of the attendees this year was outstanding and we were delighted to welcome press and buyers, from both the on- and off-trade, to join us.” He continued, “Having a Master Sommelier like Fred with me on the panel brings an impressive blend of experience, expertise and enthusiasm to Sherrymaster. As the first American to have served as President of the Court of Master Sommeliers Worldwide, it is an honour to have him on board and we both hope that this year’s edition of the Sherrymaster will prove to be the best yet.”

Sherry steals the show in Tales of the Cocktail

In the recent edition of world famous cocktail event Tales of the Cocktail Sherry took centre stage with a masterclass devoted to sherry held by González Byass.

The seminar ‘A Journey Through Sherry Cocktails by González Byass’ was a sell out, filling the Vieux Carre room in the Monteleone Hotel New Orleans to capacity. A mixed crowd of 120 consumers, bartenders and bar owners from all over the US enjoyed a ‘lesson’ in sherry from our International Brand Ambassador Boris Ivan, throwing expert Stuart Hudson and cocktail expert Andy Mauer. A 2 hour seminar which covered the Pillars of Jerez, sherry tasting, venencia and throwing demonstration and history and tasting of two classic sherry cocktails Bamboo and Adonis. In addition González Byass hosted a Captains dinner during the event held at Cane & Table. Here 45 members of the Tales of the Cocktails organisers team were treated to a three course dinner matched with González Byass sherries Tio Pepe, Alfonso, Leonor and Noé.

Tales of the Cocktail is held in New Orleans every year. It was founded in 2002 specifically for bartenders, distillers and other spirits professionals and has since become the industry’s annual meeting place for the exchange of new ideas, products and techniques.

Making the most of his time in the US Boris joined the González Byass US team visiting clients in Chicago, Houston and Miami presenting González Byass spirits and sherries. Feedback from the event and tour showed a great interest in the bartending world in the US for sherry with many of the top cocktail bars already using sherry in modern recipes and also bringing back sherry based classics.

 

González Byass flying the flag in the 2016 Olympic Games

Key personalities from the International and Spanish Olympic Movement will have the opportunity to enjoy González Byass wines at ‘La Casa de España’ in the Entre tapas Jardim Botanico Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro.

As one of the leading Spanish wineries González Byass is sponsoring the wines at the Official Opening of “La Casa de España” for the Spanish Olympic team at the Entre tapas Jardim Botanico Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro from 6th to the 20th August.

“La Casa de España” will be the official home of the Spanish Olympic Family including Spanish sportsmen and women, the presidents of different sporting federations, sponsors, member of the Royal Household and other public authorities.

González Byass is the official cava sponsor with Vilarnau Brut and will also be serving Tío Pepe, Beronia Crianza and Beronia Rueda Verdejo throughout the Olympics. In addition one of the company’s famous Tío Pepe girls will be on hand to promote the world’s most famous dry Fino Sherry, Tío Pepe.
