It was our great honour to annouce Walter Pintus, head bartender of The Connaught Bar, as judge in the International Final of the Tio Pepe Challenge 2017, to be held in Jerez on 17th May.
Walter has been bartending for 12 years and took his first steps in hospitality at his family business, back in Sardinia, Italy. Falling in love with the industry he decided to study hospitality and following his studies he travelled around Italy working in some of the most prestigious hotels in the country including Grand hotel Villa D’Este and Byblos Art Hotel.
In 2008 Walter felt the need of an experience abroad and moved to London, the world’s famous cocktail capital. After a short experience at the Sheraton hotel he joined the award
winning Lobby Bar at One Aldwych hotel where after a short while was promoted to head bartender. He then took charge of the Rivoli bar at The Ritz Hotel, a Hospitality institution where he gained several personal awards including: ‘Best UK Bartender 2013’, ‘Mayfair tournament cocktail competition’, ‘Wanderlust Colombia cocktail challenge’ and was chosen among five top bartenders in the country at the Diageo World Class UK.
In March 2015 Walter joined the team as Head Mixologist at the world famous Connaught Bar achieving, along with his all-time mentor Ago Perrone where in 2016 alone, they achieved World’s Best Cocktail Bar and Best International Hotel Bar at the Spirited Awards at Tales; Best European Bar at the Mixology Bar Awards; fourth place in the World’s 50 Best; and most recently, Imbibe Classic Drinks List of the Year.
Walter has recently become intertesed in Sherry and has been working on unique cocktail inventions with Sherry. He has created especially for Tio Pepe a cocktail called ANDALUSIAN SUNSET which will be published in our upcoming Sherry cocktail book and will continue this love of Sherry as Tio Pepe Challenge judge in the UK heat of the competition and also the International Final in Jerez.
